Class 1: “Introduction to Silversmith/Jewelry Making”

Purpose: To introduce the individual who has an interest in jewelry making, and would like to try making jewelry, before taking the formal beginners course. Or for the student who would like more instruction on certain aspects of jewelry making.

Duration: 24 hours, 6 weeks long, 1 night per week, 4 hours per night.

Time: 6 pm to 10 pm. Monday Nights. (Please note that during our first class, the day and time may be changed to accommodate the majority’s schedule.)

There is a maximum limit of 3 students per class.

Course Study: This course will cover the Tools & Materials Needed, Tools and Materials Suppliers, Basic Jewelry Tools and Safety, Planning, Design and Layout, The Use Of Cabochons and Bezel Work, Metal Cutting, Forming and Shaping, Soldiering Techniques, Surface Finishing, and Final Finish.

Description: This course will cover an opening class/instructor discussion regarding the students purpose for enrolling in jewelry making classes, Initial Investment, Tools and Materials Needed, Suppliers in the area and throughout the world, Basic Tools and Safety issues pertaining to the tools used and the jewelry shop in general. (Students will be required to perform the proper use of Tools and Safety procedures). Procedures in Planning, Design and Layout will be discussed as a group and individually for each project planned in class. Also at this time the Use of cabochons, bezel, and wire will be discussed and practiced. Students will be required to create their own setting if a stone is used in the design of their project. Instruction in the use of metal cutting tools pertaining to the project will be covered and will be performed by the student. Instruction in the use of jeweler’s anvils, mallets and dapping rods will be discussed and practiced as needed for each project individually and as a group. Soldiering, the use of heat, use and types of solder, and the various techniques will be discussed and performed individually by the student as needed for the project. (There will be much emphasis on soldering, as it is most crucial to master). Surface Finishing, the use of files, grinders, and finishing wheels will be discussed and performed by the student individually as needed for the project. Final Finishing, oxidation, buffing and polishing will be discussed as a class and performed by the student as needed for the project. There is much individual instruction and hands on training during class, please dress appropriately and be prepared to get a bit dirty.

**Each student should be able to complete 1 ring and 1 pendant in the introductory course.

 

Tuition: $350.00 (includes all materials and supplies needed to complete course projects.) Tuition can be broken down into 3 payments for your convenience and payment in full must be completed by the beginning of week 4. (Please contact me personally if other arrangements are needed).

Note: A non-refundable deposit of $50.00 is required to reserve your seat in the class, due to many last minute cancellations. This deposit will go toward your tuition.

 

Class 2: “ Beginning Silversmith/Jewelry Making”

Purpose: This course is meant for those who have taken the introductory course and have found that they would like to further their techniques, and for the beginning students who have some knowledge and/or feel secure with jewelry making and wish to bypass the introductory course.

Duration: 24 hours, 6 weeks long, 1 night per week, 4 hours per night.

Time: 6 pm to 10 pm. Tuesday Nights. (Please note that during our first class, the day and time may be changed to accommodate the majority’s schedule.)

There is a maximum limit of 3 students per class.
